Make a large rug out of smaller ones

Published: Thursday, 10 May 2018

I seem to have a theme going on with rag rugs. What can I say? I love them. They're colourful, they're versatile, they tend to have a one-of-a-kind look, and they add a little earthy and eclectic feel to a room. And did I mention they're inexpensive?

I bought these small rugs at IKEA a long time ago, when I was planning on a different project, but then I changed my mind (as one does) and these rugs sat in storage, unused for several years... until a few days ago when I decided I needed a new runner. I looked everywhere (E-V-E-R-Y-W-H-E-R-E) for a runner that had the right colour combinations, the right length, the right width (I'm very specific when it comes to rugs... rugs are no joke, ok?), but I couldn't find anything that I liked. Or perhaps I did, strike that. I didn't find anything my bank account and I could agree on.

Seat cushions with Rugs & Rags

I don't like throwing out things.

No, I'm not a hoarder. In fact, I always think of myself as a major purger when it comes to unnecessary stuff. I tend to be mindful when I make purchases. I don't usually buy things that I don't really need, and I make a point of regularly donating and/or selling things that aren't useful to us anymore.

Except when it comes to fabrics.

How to build a mid-century inspired bench for $50

Published: Friday, 09 March 2018

Mid-century design seems to be all the rage these days. From colour palettes, to architecture, to furniture pieces, and even in fashion, the 50's are back with a vengeance. Luckily for us, women, not everything is turning back a page to the world of 60 years ago, but when it comes to design trends, the inspiration is clear. And I must admit, I'm really loving the simplicity of the style and its clean, modern lines where form follows function, yet function gives form its beauty.

Build house-shaped book shelves

Published: Monday, 25 September 2017

This week I'm sharing a different kind of DIY. As I've mentioned before, I LOVE making things, all sorts of things, and almost nothing is out of limits for me. If there's something I'd like to make but I've never done that before, I'm definitely jumping in that pool fully dressed. That's how I roll, because ultimately what I really love is learning new ways to be creative. And woodworking is one of them.

Now, I'm not going to go out and say I'm a pro-carpenter because I can use some tools and I have built a few things. I'm far, FAAAAAAR from it... which is why I think anyone could learn to build these little house-shaped shelves. They're easy, they require minimal tools and materials, and it's a great addition to a kids room... or your room. (Never grow up!!)

How to recover old folding patio chairs.

Published: Tuesday, 15 August 2017

Fall may be closing in on us Northerners, but technically we still have a few more weeks of Summer... "technically". So I'm going to keep enjoying my back yard as much as I can before it gets lost under a pile of snow.
