Mini-Me fabric dolls
I've always had a soft spot in my heart for handmade toys... fabric toys, wooden toys, chrochet toys. There's a sort of vintage charm about them. When Emma was born I sewed loads of toys for her. Of course, fabric toys are perfect for babies because they're soft, easy for tiny hands to grab, and fully washable. But they certainly aren't just for babies.Â
I'd been thinking about giving these fabric dolls a try for a while (there are so many examples and ideas in the internet world!), but then again, I always have a long list of things I want to try my hands at. I usually need an excuse to make something new. And this time the excuse was a birthday party.

For years now, I have tried to be more environmentally friendly around the house, by remembering to bring my own bags when I go grocery shopping, buying things in bulk whenever possible, cooking from scratch as often as we can, and switching to reusable snack bags instead of plastic re-sealables ones, among other things. But it wasn't until recently that I made the decision to be more mindful about the things that we bring into our home. Paying attention to our everyday routines, I noticed that there are a large number of products that we use and dispose of, often without even thinking about it. As I went about my day, I took mental notes (as I often do) and realized that a lot of these products could easily be replaced for other more eco-friendly ones.Â
Sustainability matters. I am fully aware that it's not always practical or even feasible to be green in all aspects of our lives, but it's the little things that add up and make a difference. Being more conscious about our choices and making small changes, one at a time, can help minimize the damage and maximize the benefits. And in my case, it makes me feel better about our lifestyle, reduces the amount of garbage in the household, and gives me an excuse to make things (often with scraps that I keep and never know what to make with). So it's a win, win, WIN situation in my book.

Well, hello there! Long time no see. After a crazy busy couple of months that felt like I was sewing my life away, I'm back! (just in time for another break for the holiday season coming up). I know it's SUPER late and you're probably thinking "this would have been great to have 3 weeks ago"... and you're probably right. Or maybe you're like me, putting things together at the last minute, in which case I have just the right thing for you! In any case, believe me when I tell you these little rice heating pads are the best, and they are also the quickest, easiest DIY gift you can make for everyone on your list. They are perfect for neighbours, teachers, friends, and even as stocking stuffers for your whole family!

Hi, guys! Hope you all enjoyed your weekend. Lots of Halloween parties happening around here; everyone is really gearing up for trick-or-treating.
No costume parties for us, though. Hubby and I had our own little celebration, since this weekend marked our 10 year wedding anniversary. Time truly does fly. Talk about spooky!! If you follow me on Instagram, I already bore you to death with sappy pictures from our wedding, so I won't be doing that again. Besides, I have something much more exciting to share with you. Guess what I finished this weekend? My daughter's Halloween costume!!! A full 2 days before Halloween! I'm doing so much better this year.Â

YIKES! How has it been 3 weeks since my last post? Sorry about the radio silence, I got lost under a giant pile of super hero capes and I couldn't find my way out. But I made it through! So hello again, my friends. *high fives all around*
So what happened these past 3 weeks? Halloween orders happened, and about 2 billion kids in the world wanting to be Batman. And to that I say... "DREAM BIG KIDS! You can do the thing"... but don't expect me to watch Batman movies any time soon. I'm all Dark-Knight-ed out... for a while.
In other news, since Halloween is just around the corner, I thought I'd get into the spooky festive spirit by sharing some of the costumes I made for my daughter through the years... and who knows? Maybe you'll get inspired. You know, if you've procrastinated this long and still don't have a costume for your kiddos... I know I'm still in that boat (last minute sewing is my forte).Â

School is just around the corner, and by that I mean less than 24 hrs 'till GO time, people!!
Can you feel the excitement!? Some days I feel like it's me starting Grade 1 all over again. I wonder what she's going to do on her first day, whether she's going to enjoy it or be nervous about it. It's almost like dropping her off on her first day of JK... when she just waved goodbye and walked into the school, and instantly forgot she had a mother (seriously kid? I had separation anxiety for weeks!). Well, Grade 1 is kind of like that, except she's a big kid now and I'm still a crying baby.

The first day of school is just around the corner and we're getting excited around here!!!! New friends, new teachers, new adventures. Grade 1 is a big deal, people!
But if I gotta be honest with you, I kind of feel like we aren't truly ready for it. Yes, I have shopped for a few new items, like shoes, and have been working on a few back-to-school projects like a couple of new dresses and sweaters, snack bags for her lunches, etc... but wherever I go I see stores packed to the brim with school supplies, and parents telling me stories about all the things their kids need. And you know what I've bought? NOTHING! I'm a total newbie in the grade school department, and I AM CLUELESS. I have no idea what my kid will need (and I can't remember what I used in school... that was centuries ago!). She has a backpack, several lunch bags, and most basic supplies, so I don't know... am I supposed to get her something else? Are there any other real 'must-haves' for first grade? Am I the most unprepared mother around? Maybe ('first world problems' written all over me).
